Aim. The purpose of this study was to report our experience in anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction with hamstrings versus patellar tendon.
Methods. We studied 2 randomized homogeneous groups of 20+20 athletes (20 with hamstrings, 20 with patellar tendon) comparing the results evaluted according to the IKCD score. The patellar tendon (using half tunnel arthroscopic technique) was fixed with 2 interference screws, while we used a femoral Trans-fix, and an interference screw and a metallic staple for the tibia to fix hamstrings.
Results. On the basis of our experience, we did not find any difference between the 2 methods, both as to objective evaluation and with KT 1000, as well as according to the patient’s point of view.
Conclusion. Hamstrings show reliable results as much as patellar tendon, but with a decreased morbidity.
