Patil S., Davidson D., Garbuz D. S., Masri B. A.
Division of Lower Limb Reconstruction and Oncology Department of Orthopaedics University of British Columbia Vancouver, BC, Canada
Deep infection is an infrequent complication of total knee arthroplasty (TKA); however, it is associated with significant morbidity and the potential for compromise of long-term outcome. Evaluation and diagnosis have been well established in the literature. There are several management options available, however, two stage revision using a antibiotic spacer between stages is the most reliable means by which to eradicate infection and maximize long-term function. The purpose of this review is to describe the principles and results of two stage revision of the infected TKA.
