Surgery of the wrist in rheumatoid arthritis
Rahimtoola Z. O.
Department of Orthopaedics Leiden University Medical Center Leiden, The Netherlands
Following a brief epidemiological introduction, a historical and contemporary overview of the treatment options of the rheumatoid wrist is presented. Conservative and surgical therapy of the radiocarpal joint is summarised, including discussion of soft-tissue procedures, partial and total wrist arthrodeses and total wrist arthroplasty. The final section is devoted to the treatment of the distal radioulnar joint and includes: distal ulna head resection, Sauvé-Kapandji and distal radioulnar joint arthroplasty procedures.
