Implant breakage: discussion of a case
Uggeri M., Scaluggia G., Branca Vergano L.
1 U.O. Ortopedia e Traumatologia Ospedale di Desenzano del Garda (BS) 2 Scuola di Specializzazione in Ortopedia e Traumatologia Università degli Studi di Udine, Udine
We describe a case of a femural shaft fracture, reduced and fixed with plate and screws. After some months we observed the implant breakage, with subsequent displacement of the fracture. The surgical treatment of this kind of complication is very challenging both for the difficult removal of the broken implant at the site of the fracture and for the choice of the new implant, limited by the altered anatomic situation.
