A tissue engineering, cell-based therapeutic approach could be essential for extensive bone or cartilage reconstruction. This topic can be divided in 2 chapters regarding surgical techniques for cartilage and for bone reconstruction. A tissue engineering approach can be applied in both fields, for cartilage and bone regeneration, utilizing different techniques, scaffolds and cell sources.
