Non invasive treatment of proximal humeral fractures: critical review of our results

Mariotti U., Bertignone L., Milano P., Sabra M.

PDF

Background. Proximal humeral fractures are frequent, and their results are often insufficient, particulary for functional limitation of the shoulder.
Methods. At the I Division of Orthopaedics of CTO hospital (Turin), a case series of 350 patients treated by plaster, external tutor or Desault for proximal humeral fractures classificated by Neer method has been re-examined.
Results. Results have been evaluated by Constant score (for clinic) and by Paavolainen scale (for radiography).
Conclusions. On the basis of the results obtained the conclusion is drawn that a more accuracy in the evaluation of X-rays will more often suggest a surgical indication (synthesis or prosthesis) in these fractures.
