Transient osteoporosis of the hip in pregnancy. Case report and review of the literature
Artiaco S., Puce A., Zanchini F.
A case of hip transient osteoporosis in a 7 month-pregnant woman is described. The syndrome is rare, its onset is characterized by increasing pain and stiffness of the hip joint. Although its radiographic appearance is very specific, its rarity and the aspecific clinical and serological manifestations can make an early diagnosis difficult. A differential diagnosis is therefore requested with other diseases which cause hip-pain, particulary with aseptic osteonecrosis of femoral-head. The authors, on the basis of a personal experience and the literature, report on the state of the art concerning this subject, making an update and critical examination of the present theories concerning this pathology.
