Key concepts and instrumentation for endothelial keratoplasty and deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty

Silvana MADI , Ahmed HUSSEIN

Alexandria University, Alexandria, Egypt

During the last decade, several techniques of lamellar keratoplasty have been developed with the purpose of retaining the advantages of penetrating keratoplasty while avoiding the removal of healthy portions of the cornea; these techniques selectively replace dysfunctional parts, limit the rate of rejection, and increase long-term graft stability. This review will consider the different instruments and techniques currently used to prepare donor tissue for endothelial keratoplasty and deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty.
