Zinc and eye

On the basis of the literature data, the role of zinc in ocular physiology and physiopathology is described. From a therapeutic point of view zinc plays several actions: antiallergic and immunoregulatory; antiinflammatory, because it blocks the oxygen free radicals; antiviral, particularly on herpetic virus; of stabilization and functional restoration in macular degeneration and in optic toxic or nutritional neuropathies.
