Occupational physician and precarious employment: clinical aspects
Baratti A.
Medicina del Lavoro, ASL CN 1 Cuneo, Regione Piemonte, Cuneo, Italia
In our country the debate and research on the consequences of a precarious employment on the safety and health of workers are still lacking. The D.L.g.s. 81/08, an innovative and complete norm, does not allow to deal with this topic in a pragmatic and positive way. The conditions of the exposure of an “atypical” worker to an occupational hazard are not always easily measurable and predictable, and do not imply only the reduction or fragmentation of the working time. Much has still to be done for risk assessment, health monitoring plan and, in particular, in the research of workable and appropriate solutions. The occupational health physician has an ethical duty to create the conditions to record these events and has a legal duty to activate, even in the company, effective prevention interventions in collaboration with the Public Health Services whenever possible, which can lead to the implementation of health promotion programs that could counteract the effects of unemployment or precarious lifestyles.
