Proximal femoral fractures: rehabilitation and medicolegal implications

Proximal femoral fractures are a more and more frequent event with important consequences on permanent impairment. The acute treatment is typically surgical, either with internal synthesis or hip prosthesis. The patient undergoes a postacute and a long term rehabilitative treatment that allows significative improvement in terms of strenght, Range of Motion, balance, gait, and thus less impairment in the activities of daily living and prevention of future falls. The expenses due to a correct rehabilitative path must be refund since they represent an advantage in terms of handicap reduction. A good rehabilitation can allow to modulate the percentage of permanent invalidity.
