The concepts defining risk in legal medicine, clinical medicine, occupational medicine, epidemiology, public health and law are the premise for exploring various aspects of risk assessment and insurance related to the use of drugs during pregnancy. A comprehensive overview of drug classes used during pregnancy is integrated with information from an outpatient maternity clinic specialized in the management of at-risk pregnancies operated at the OIRM—S. Anna Hospital, Turin. The article examines the risk of occupational exposure of pregnant workers to heavy metals, solvents, methanol, antineoplastic agents, anesthesia gases, pesticides and other chemical agents. Mandatory accident and health insurance is compared with other private insurance products (accident, disability, medical expense reimbursement, professional liability). The article concludes with a list of norms and current legislation concerning health protection of working women of reproductive age.
