Characterization methods for microcapsules
Schuldt U., Hunkeler D.
Laboratory of Polyelectrolytes and BioMacromolecules, Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, Lausanne, Switzerland
The characterization methods used to describe basic capsule properties such as the permeability and stability are summarized, with a focus on the procedures and metrics utilized for the determination of permeability and membrane cut-off. The advantages and limitations of the characterization methods are also discussed. Methods for the determination of the mechanical stability are given along with analytical methods for determination of surface properties as morphology. Some general items related to capsule characterization, such as batch homogeneity, are mentioned.
