The compliance role in glaucoma therapy

The number of studies that investigate compliance in glaucoma is consistent and has increased dramatically in recent years, confirming the growing interest in this topic. The available literature data show how often antiglaucomatous therapy is managed by the patient in a suboptimal way: adherence is therefore a common problem for many glaucoma patients, especially for those newly diagnosed. In our review we analyze this issue with particular reference to risk factors associated with poor compliance: they are still often poorly defined and understood, and while some of them reach unanimous agreement in the literature, others seem to play a controversial role. The problem, which recognizes a multifactorial genesis, requires a personalized approach based on the characteristics of each patient.
