Eyelid surgery performed by radiofrequency and postsurgical treatment with fusidic acid and medicated patch

Aim. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the association between a drop containing Fusidic Acid (Fucithalmic disposable drops, Sooft Italia, S.p.A) and a gel composed of extract of Echinacea angustifolia, Ananas sativum e 18-beta-glycyrrethic acid (Iridium Gel D, Sooft Italia, S.p.A.) in the healing process of surgical wounds after eyelid surgery performed with radiofrequency instruments.
Methods. Sixty eyes of 30 patients underwent bilateral eyelid surgery performed by radiofrequency scalpel. In the postoperative period the right eyelid of 30 patients (Group A) were treated 2 times/day for 10 days with Fucithalmic and Iridium Gel D. The left eyelids of 30 patients (Group B) were treated 2 times/day for 10 days with Iridium Gel D alone. All patients were checked after surgery. For each patient were assessed pain intensity, hyperemia, eyelid edema and the healing time of surgical wounds.
Results. During the follow-up period, the patients of Group A showed a lower intensity of pain, hyperemia and eyelid oedema, and a faster surgical wound healing compared with patients in Group B.
Conclusion. In patients undergoing eyelid surgery using radiofrequency, the combined use of Fucithalmic and Iridium Gel D seems to be more effective than the application of Iridium Gel D alone in pain, hyperemia and eyelid oedema reduction, and to allow better healing process of surgical wounds.
