Tuberculum sellae meningioma involving the optic canal. Case report and techniques notes

Tuberculum sellae meningiomas account for 5% to 12% of all intracranial meningiomas. Characteristically lie in a suprasellar subchiasmal midline position, displacing the optic chiasm posteriorly and slightly superiorly, and the optic nerves laterally. The most common initial symptom is asymmetric loss of vision starting with unilateral decreased acuity or blurring in the visual field followed by progression to bilateral involvement. Authors describe the extension of the primary tumour the into the optic canal and the surgical approach is presented.
