Cyclodestructive procedures

This article describes various forms of cyclodestructive procedures. From the introduction of the cyclodestruction techniques up to now they have been represented by: cyclodiathermy, cyclocryotherapy (CCT), cyclosclerotransthermy (CSTT) and cyclophotocoagulation (CPC). In this review we will describe various methodologies with techniques, indications and literature data analysis, also presenting personal results obtained using CCT and CSTT by Coleman's method in patients affected by refractory glaucoma. The efficiency of CPC compared to cyclocryocoagulation seems to be equal, but freezing has higher side effects involving a much greater tissue insult. Older procedures have now been abandoned. CPC plays today an important role in the difficult management of eyes affected by refractory glaucoma.
