A total of 36 nearly blind patients suffering from diabetic retinopathy, mean age 65 years old, 19 females and 17 males, underwent visual rehabilitation: 20 were treated at the Visual Rehabilitation Centre, Varese District Hospital (Head: Prof. A. Tamborini), 16 at the Visual Rehabilitation Centre, Institute of Ophthalmology, University of Parma (Head: Prof. G. Maraini). The authors report the results of the rehabilitative treatment performed in Varese and Parma which aimed to restore reading capacity and to resolve the visual needs linked to treatment for diabetes.
