INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS
Giornale Italiano di Medicina Riabilitativa is the updating and professional training journal of SIMFER (the Italian Society of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation).
It is a bimonthly publication.
Preferentially, the Journal publishes invited articles, but freely-submitted manuscripts may be considered for publication.
Instructions for the most frequent types of articles published in the Journal.
• Editorials, submitted upon invitation, must be no longer than 1000 words with up to 15 references.
• Original articles. Manuscripts must be no longer than 7000 words with up to 60 references. The text should consist of the following sections, labelled: Introduction, Materials and methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusions, Acknowledgements. Authors should disclose any funding or research contracts or conflict of interest, and state the dates of any congress where the paper has already been presented.
• Review articles. Review articles should discuss a topic of current interest, outline current knowledge of the subject, analyze different opinions regarding the problem discussed. The text should be no longer than 8500 words with up to 100 references on the latest data in the literature.
• Case reports. These give a description of particularly interesting cases. The text should be no longer than 3500 words with up to 30 references.
• Therapeutical and technical notes. These give a presentation and an assessment of new drugs and new treatment methods or changes in current methods. The text should be no longer than 3500 words with up to 20 references.
• Special articles. These report on the history of medicine, management-organizational aspects, health care or social policies, ethics, education in physical and rehabilitation medicine or topics related to other disciplines relevant to rehabilitation. The text should be no longer than 5000 words with up to 20 references.
• Letters to the Editor refer to a recent Journal article or to a subject of topical interest that the authors wish to present (no longer than 700 words with up to 5 references).
With the manuscript, provide a page giving the title of the paper; the name(s) of the author(s), including the first name(s) and second name; the institutional affiliation of each author; and the name and address of the author to whom correspondence should be sent.
Original articles and case reports must be accompanied by an abstract of not more than 250 words. The abstract should briefly describe the objective of the study, how the study was performed and the salient results.
References must be numbered in Arabic numbers consecutively as they are cited in the text and in sequence with the list of references. The style of references is that of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors.
Tables and figures should be sent as separate files, with a title provided for each and numbered in Roman and Arabic numbers, respectively. Tables and figures must be numbered so that they will be in sequence with references cited in the text.
Submissions must be accompanied by a request for publication in the Giornale Italiano di Medicina Riabilitativa and by a written statement, signed by all the authors, that the article is original, unpublished, and that it has not been submitted for publication elsewhere.
The Editor reserves the right to accept manuscripts deemed worthy of publication and to publish them according to criteria of pertinence to the general topic of a Journal issue; therefore, no priority is given to the chronological order in which manuscripts are accepted for publication. Furthermore, the Editor reserves the right to scale and insert tables and figures to fit page layout.
Publication is free of charge. Reprints will be sent to the authors upon request to the Publisher.
Papers should be submitted directly to the online Editorial Office at the Edizioni Minerva Medica website www.minervamedica.it. Please access the website and go to the “Online submission” section. If you are entering the site for the first time, please take a moment to create your personal account by clicking on "Create new account". You will need to create an account in order to upload your manuscript to the online platform. Enter your username and password and click on "Login". Then follow the instructions on how to submit a new manuscript.
Other types of articles such as short communications, meeting notices or announcements of activities and initiatives of potential interest to readers should be no longer than 1 typewritten page and sent directly either to the Chief Editor or to one of the Associate Editors.
