This communication summarizes recommendations proposed by National Institute for Health and Care Excellence in June 2019, whose aim was the protein/creatinine ratio (PCR) and albumin/creatinine ratio (ACR) measurements and critical threshold on spot urine samples. These tests are rapid, sensitive and accurate in detecting significant proteinuria in pregnant women, as a risk factor for pre-eclampsia. These assays could replace proteinuria test on 24 hours urine collection, no longer recommended as a first level test.

KEY WORDS: Protein/creatinine ratio (PCR); Albumin/creatinine ratio (ACR); Proteinuria; Albuminuria; Pre-eclampsia
