Manifestos for Laboratory Medicine

Piero CAPPELLETTI

SIPMeL, Castelfranco Veneto, Treviso, Italia

In 2018, a set of scientific articles on international journals and collaborative documents in Italy launched a campaign for Laboratory Medicine, for its clinical and politic visibility, for its organization focused to patients’ and populations’ outcomes, and for a workforce adequate in numbers and in competencies. These “manifestos” discuss not completely new issues, but with new awareness: the global engagement, the need of advocacy by the discipline and its leaders, a re-thinking on academic education, the need of adequate facilities and adequate financing. Nevertheless, in general, there is not a sufficiently comprehensive vision about the digital transformation of healthcare, the centeredness of a “new” patient, the need of building a Laboratory Medicine out of the fence, and the archetype of Laboratory professional that could be indicated to colleagues and students.
