Use of low-intensity pulsed ultrasound therapy for the management of bilateral mandibular condyle fracture

Fractures of the mandibular condyle result in numerous complications which affect the normal functions of the mandible such as mouth opening, mastication, breathing and speech. Hence early restitution of form and function is required by conservative or surgical treatment. Conservative treatment of mandibular condylar fractures is generally by intermaxillary fixation which immobilizes the jaw for 4 weeks, to facilitate bone healing. This case report presents a technique that accelerates fracture healing and reduces the period of immobilization, by using low-intensity pulsed ultrasound.
