Efficacy of subcutaneous oxygen-ozonated therapy in the treatment of lichen sclerosus vulvar lesions

Ida FERRARA , Ilaria CIARDIELLO

Centro Medico Gunè, Acerra, Napoli, Italia

Vulvar lichen sclerosus (VLS) is a chronic inflammatory dermatosis characterized by ivory-white plaques or patches with glistening surface commonly affecting the vulva. Common symptoms are irritation, soreness, dyspareunia, dysuria, and urinary incontinence. VLS is characterized by porcelain-white atrophic plaques. Thinning and shrinkage of the genital area make painful coitus and urination. Oxygen-ozone therapy was used. In this first case the aspect of the lesion and the sintomathology after subcutaneous treatment with oxygen-ozone therapy has clearly improved. LS is not uncommon as an itchy vulvar dermatosis. There is no curative treatment for LS, usually progressing tovards a cell-carcinoma. Various medications only relieve the symptoms. Oxygen-ozone therapy might be considered a possible effective therapy.
