Pregnancy and nutrition

Volpe F.

Odontoiatra Libero Professionista, Polla, Salerno, Italia

PDF

During pregnancy it is not necessary to eat more, but to correct the eating habits following the food pyramid, It is important to consider that the proportions of the energy intakes of the main nutrients should not change, what should be changed is the total energy intake, i.e. the number of calories introduced, which must increase in relation to the starting weight of the woman and then progressively during pregnancy. Following a balanced diet adapted to the individual needs, keeping a physically active lifestyle, allow a gradual weight gain, according to the physiological stages of the pregnancy itself. A careful dietary control may not result in an excessive increase in weight with alterations in glycolipid metabolism, and, more important, with adverse effects on fetal growth and birth itself.
