Is the depression woman?
Tomasetti A. 1, Guerriero R. 2
1 Unità operativa Salute Mentale, ASL AV2, Atripalda; 2 Dipartimento Pari Opportunità e Problematiche Emergenti, ASL AV2, Avellino
Aim. Mental health has constituted for a long time a fertile ground for the prejudicial differences between men and women. Since the first studies on the hysteria a greater incidence of psychic disorders has been signalled in the women.
Methods. Our study, conducted on a champion of 561 patients (345 females, 216 males) within a 5 years temporal frame, using the ICD 9 classification, has substantially confirmed the greater vulnerability of the women especially in the area of the neurotic depression.
Results. Relevant elements emerged regarding the role of marriage, the condition of housewives and extra-family workers. Particular importance has also been attributed to the radical transformation of the western countries lifestyle, while the genetic, hormonal and psicho-constitutional hypotheses have been scarcely by present data.
Conclusion. Therefore we identify as a priority preventive interventions to inform, more and better, on the risk factors of risk and to overcome the traditional educational models, founded upon the subordination and dependence.
