Paola represents a clinical case where artificial nutrition (AN) was not mandatory and, due to a lack of correct prognostic and clinical evaluation, it was considered inappropriate as the therapy was excessive. The authors also indicated the need to consider AN as a “therapy” and thus, depending on circumstances and clinical requirements, as something that can be carried out in full, as a last resort or as a palliative, or if necessary, even suspended.
