Valerio T., Orsini G., Loizzi P., Chiechi L. M.
Dipartimento SCGS, Sezione di Ostetricia e Ginecologia B, Università degli Studi di Bari, Bari
Menopause is a physiological event of life in women that can determine a series of diseases and illnesses, some of which, as cardiovascular diseases and osteoporosis heavily burden on the health of women. These pathologies are not only determined by the hormonal lack induced by menopause, but by other risk factors often underestimated. To know all the risk factors is therefore very important for the prevention for these pathologies. Among these, the celiac disease is a predisposing condition not much considered for some postmenopausal diseases. The aim of this review is to evaluate if the celiac disease, especially if disregarded and untreated, is a condition of risk for some menopause-induced diseases.
