Audit of the Danish national hip arthroplasty register

Back­ground. The accu­racy of ­data con­tained in the ­Danish hip arthro­plasty reg­ister was com­pared ­with the ­case ­notes.
­Methods. A ­total of 93 ­case ­notes ­were ­reviewed. The ­study was lim­ited to the per­ti­nent end-­point for ­failure, i. e., revi­sion. The ­follow-up ­time was 3 ­years. The 3-­year revi­sion ­rate was ­about 5.44 ­according to the ­Danish hip arthro­plasty reg­ister.
­Results. We ­found 2 addi­tional fail­ures ­giving a 7.5% revi­sion ­rate. The ­error ­rate was there­fore ­about 40%.
Con­clu­sions. Fur­ther improve­ment of the ­Danish hip arthro­plasty reg­ister ­seems nec­es­sary for its use as ­basis for ­reporting ­results.
