Background. To relieve pain of acute ureteral colic with sublingual piroxicam or intramuscular diclofenac.
Methods. Randomized study for the treatment of ureteral pain with piroxicam, 20 mg or diclofenac 5 mg, and hyoscine 0.004 g for moderate or intractable pain. A total of 42 subjects (25 male, 17 female; mean age 49±2 years) with this pathology have been treated. The efficacy of the drugs was tested with Visual Analogue Scale.
Results. All the preparations were good in resolving pain, but sublingual piroxicam was better tolerated.
Conclusions. Non steroidal antiinflammatory drugs are efficacious in the treatment of renal colic and they can be used safely.
