Use of fitostimoline in dentistry

Aims. The medicinal compound Fitostimoline has been used for many years for the treatment of periodontal diseases and alveolar-gingival dystrophic processes, as well as for ulcero-dystrophic cutaneous lesions, and all slow healing and cicatrization processes in general. The aim of this study was to confirm the therapeutic efficacy of Fitostimoline in periodontal diseases of various forms, using a structured treatment protocol based on both local and systemic administration.
Methods. Forty outpatients suffering from inflammatory or mixed periodontal diseases were treated with Fitostimoline for a total of 10 weeks. The therapeutic activity of the compound was evaluated using the total symptom score and a histological examination of the affected gingival areas.
Results and conclusions. The results of the study confirmed the therapeutic efficacy in clinical and tissular terms of Fitostimoline treatment in this type of pathology.
