Two patients with microcystic meningioma are reported. On computed tomographic scans or MRI, these tumors are similar to a glial or metastatic lesion with cystic or necrotic changes.
There is no definitive instrument for preoperatively differentiating microcystic meningioma from malignant glioma. Their unusual histological picture might lead to misdiagnosis of other intracranial tumors, including schwannomas, chordomas, astrocytomas and angioblastic meningiomas. The clinicopathological features of two microcystic meningiomas which were also examined immunohistochemically, are reported.
