Palliative surgery of digestive tumors. Review of the literature

Digestive oncological surgery is palliative in 40%, in order to treat or to prevent an acute complication, to prolong and to improve the quality of life. In the esophagus the 5-year survival was 5%, in the stomach the median survival was 13-19 months, in the hepatic hilum neoplasm reached 1 year with external beam radiation, in the liver the 3-year survival was 7%, in the pancreas the median survival was 1 year and in the colorectal cancer the 5-year survival was 30-37%.
