Cyclist’s external iliac artery thrombosis associated with traumatic popliteal artery thrombosis. Case report

Stenosis and occlusion of the iliac artery in sportsmen have been described as rare and often misdiagnosed. A case is reported of a fifty-one-year old man with thrombosis of the external iliac artery, typical of cyclists, and a traumatic thrombosis of the popliteal artery. Pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of the sportsmen’s external iliac artery thrombosis and the peculiarity of the popliteal thrombosis are described.
