Facial rejuvenation through HYAL SYSTEM VOL, a novel hyaluronic acid-based filler
Ezio COSTA ✉
Clinica Ezio Costa, Sona, Verona, Italy
Nowadays, age-associated facial imperfections are undesired and antiesthetic features. Therefore, there is an increasing demand for rejuvenation and facial volume augmentation treatments. Different surgical and non-surgical approaches exist. Among them, HA-based fillers injections are the most popular nonsurgical cosmetic procedures performed worldwide since they are low risk and easy to perform. Different HA fillers are widespread on the market and vary according to HA chemical characteristics and molecular weight (MW). Recently, a novel HA-based formulation, HYAL SYSTEM VOL (Fidia Farmaceutici S.p.A, Abano Terme, Padua, Italy), has been developed. It contains 2.5% HA of two distinct molecular weights (1 MDa/2 MDa). Most of the molecules, with the function of improving the product texture and persistence, are 1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether (BDDE) cross-linked, whereas a minor fraction are linear, not cross-linked HA molecules which guarantees a significant filling effect at the site of injection. The present paper describes three cases of Caucasian women who complain of deep wrinkles and midfacial volume loss who have been successfully treated with HYAL SYSTEM VOL injections on different facial areas. After treatment, the patients showed a significant aesthetic improvement in facial aging appearance and in volume restoration. These ameliorations were confirmed by the increase in the GAIS scores compared to the pretreatment conditions. At one-year follow-up, the rejuvenating effect was still appreciable in all three cases. No adverse events were observed during the entire study periods. HYAL SYSTEM VOL was effective in restoring facial volumes loss due to aging and reducing wrinkle depth, thus conferring a more youthful appearance to the patients and has been shown to be an ideal candidate for facial aging treatments.
