BACKGROUND: Facial skin changes are among the most visible signs of aging. With the aim of finding effective natural products to counteract the main facial aging symptoms, such as wrinkles and eyelid bags, a sericose-based cream was tested.
METHODS: This vehicle-controlled trial was performed on 40 healthy volunteers, males and females, aged 35-65 years, presenting wrinkles, lack of skin elasticity, dull skin complexion, eyelid bags and/or dark circles. Participants were assigned to either the sericoside-based formulation group (N.=20) or the vehicle (no active ingredients) group (N.=20).
RESULTS: The sericoside 0.5% cream successfully reduced facial skin roughness, puffiness and the dark blemishes under the eyes.
CONCLUSIONS: The study demonstrated that the sericoside 0.5% cream is a valid anti-aging product for eye-contour skin as well as facial treatments.
