Skin is characterized by a stratification of layers: epidermis, dermis and hypodermis. This stratification, however, may present regional morphological variations due to the location, the sex and the age and their knowledge can represent a useful tool in the daily dermatopathology mainly in those site-related pathologies. We present a review of the most relevant histological features of the skin in terms of their regional variations along with histological clues which facilitate the topographic identification of cutaneous biopsies.
