Cutaneous hyperpigmentation: solar lentigo as a model of altered interplay between dermis and epidermis
Kovacs D., Cardinali G., Picardo M.
Istituto Dermatologico San Gallicano, IRCCS, Roma, Italia
Several evidences highlighted the key role of the interaction between dermal and epidermal compartments in the regulation of cutaneous pigmentation through the release of mediators involved in the control of melanocyte functionality. An altered synthesis and/or secretion of these mediators may favor the onset of pigmented lesions, e.g. solar lentigo. To extend the knowledge of the complex interplay between the different cell populations in the control of skin pigmentation will allow to develop new therapeutic approaches for the treatment of hyperpigmented lesions.
