The study was carried out to evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of Ecocel® Plus Crema as monotherapy in the treatment of chronic paronychia of the hands. The cream is specifically formulated for chronic paronychia, as it contains specific ingredients that act on the three factors responsible for the disease: Ecocel® Plus Crema in fact combines anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and protective activities. The study enrolled 18 patients, who applied the cream twice a day on the periungual skin and the nail plate, with a gentle massage, for three months. At the final visit, all the 18 patients showed disappearance of the inflammatory signs of the proximal nail fold and growth of a normal nail plate, whose surface was smooth and shiny. Complete cuticle regrowth was seen in 10 cases. This study demonstrates that Ecocel® Plus Crema is very effective in the treatment of chronic paronychia and is optimally tolerated and cosmetically pleasant, the two latter characteristics being very important for a product to be applied on the hands. Ecocel® Plus Crema’s efficacy as monotherapy in chronic paronychia is due to its composition, where the unique active ingredients act against the three causative factors: they protect the nail from contact with environmental substances, reduce the inflammation and eradicate microbial contamination of the nail.
