Penile subcutaneous granuloma annulare
Tomasi A., Gasparini C., Damiani A., Papini M.
Clinica Dermatologica di Terni, Università degli studi di Perugia, Perugia, Italia
Granuloma annulare (GA) is a chronic, benign, self-limiting, granulomatous skin disorder of unknown aetiology or widely accepted pathogenesis. Nodular lesions, often in an annular arrangement, usually involve the limbs and are more frequent in children and young females. The subcutaneous clinical variant is rare and is characterised by firm nodules, deeply located and covered by normal appearing epidermis. This form of GA commonly occurs in children and is located on the extremities. Involvement of the penis is exceptional and poses diagnostic problems that can be clarified only by the biopsy. A case of subcutaneous GA occurring on the penis of a 27-year-old man is reported and the current literature is reviewed.
