Invisible dermatoses from the perspective of the dermatopathologist: part II
Tomasini C., Butera A. C.
Clinica Dermatologica, Dipartimento di Scienze Biomediche e Oncologia Umana, Università degli Studi di Torino, Torino, Italia
From the perspective of the dermatopathologist, the invisible dermatoses comprise a heterogeneous plethora of skin disorders characterized by a stunning discrepancy between an expressive and striking clinical morphology and very discrete histopathologic alterations that make the skin look normal. In these events, methods and strategies based on a meticulous microscopic examination of the specimen along with clinicopathologic correlation, use of special stains and/or immunohistochemistry may lead to the correct diagnosis. The updated list presented in this paper will be of great use in assisting the dermatopathologist when facing with the problem.
