Erythrokeratolysis hiemalis: four family cases and one sporadic case in central-northern Sardinia

Puddu G., Carcassi G. M.

Unità Operativa Complessa di Dermatologia Ospedale “San Francesco” ASL 3, Nuoro

PDF

This article describes four family cases and one sporadic case of palmoplantar erythrokeratolysis reported in Sardinia. The case history, the clinical appearance, the seasonal changes and the histological picture are identical to those of keratolytic winter erythema or erythrokeratolysis hiemalis or Oudtshoorn skin disease, an extremely rare genodermatosis described so far in five countries around the world. To our knowledge no other cases have been reported in Italy.
