Keratoacanthoma: an abortive squamous cell carcinoma that does not always fail

Schwartz R. A.

Dermatology, New Jersey Medical School, Newark, NJ, USA

PDF

Keratoacanthoma (KA) is an unusual entity, a neoplasm difficult to classify. It was once considered the prototype of a pseudomalignancy, yet it is now viewed in an opposite light as a pseudobenignity. It still challenges the definition of cancer. In addition, the KA may serve as a marker for the important autosomal dominant familial cancer syndrome, the Muir-Torre syndrome.
