Neurothekeoma of the eyelid. Report of a case
Miracco F., Miracco C. *, Schürfeld K. *, Biagioli M. **, Pellegrino M. **
From the Dipartimento di Scienze Oftalmologiche * Istituto di Anatomia ed Istologia Patologica ** Scienze Dermatologiche Università degli Studi - Siena
A case of a neurothekeoma unusually arisen in the eyelid is reported. This uncommon lesion is considered to derive from peripheral nerve sheath. The case described was a myxoid variant, showing a strong S-100 immunoreaction. Neurothekeoma is a benign tumor, although recurrences may occur following an incomplete resection. Neurothekeoma should also be considered for an appropriate surgery of nodular lesions of the eyelid.
