Cutaneous Leishmaniasis: new atypical clinical course in an endemic area

Saccabusi S., Ena P., Satta G.

Two cases of autochthonous cutaneous Leishmaniasis with unusual clinical course are described and compared with all affected patients examined over the last twenty years in a region where this disease is endemic. In one of the two cases the Leishmania was not immediately evident with consequent diagnostic uncertainty. This report also shows the lowest response to therapy we have ever observed. However, the validity of intralesional therapy even for several cutaneous lesions is emphasized.
