Acroangiodermatitis in an amputation stump

PDF

A case of a 57-year old man affected by purple-blu skin Kaposi like lesions on above knee amputation stump is reported. The patient underwent this operation seven years before but lesions appeared fourteen months after a suction-socked prosthesis application. There was no serological evidence for an HIV infection. Definite diagnosis of acroangiodermatitis was made by the histological and immunohistological features of the lesions. There was no evidence for an underlying arteriovenous malformation. The angiomatoid lesions probably resulted from superficial venous stasis caused by the suction socket prosthesis.
