A case of erythema dyscromicum perstans in a 57 year old Colombian woman is reported. The patient presented asymptomatic hyperpigmented macules of various sizes on the extremities and trunk, some with erythematous halo. Histologic findings confirmed the diagnosis of erythema dyscromicum perstans. This condition was first described by Ramirez in 1957 under the term ashy dermatosis and since then it has been a discussed clinical entity of unknown cause usually related to lichen planus.
