Rationale for the use of alginate dressings in skin lesions

The aging of the world population has determined an increase of chronic diseases, such as diabetes and obesity, which themselves may lead to several complications, such as chronic skin diseases, mainly frequent in the elderly population. Advanced medications, such as alginates, play a leading role in the treatment of these lesions.
