BACKGROUND: Incisional and ventral abdominal wall hernias are common and their repair is daily routine practice and the laparoscopic technique is gaining always wider acceptance and guarantees fewer wound infections; obese patients are those who benefit the most from it. Ventralight ST Echo PS is a patch with a particular system easy to be positioned that makes laparoscopic ventral hernia repair safe and effective.
METHODS: All consecutive patients who underwent to laparoscopic umbilical or incisional hernia repair using Ventralight ST Echo PS hernia patch, older than 18 years, with a defect size less than 20 cm in length and 10 cm in width have been analyzed.
RESULTS: A total of 63 patients underwent to laparoscopic primary ventral or incisional hernia repair from January 2015 to December 2018: 7.9% were recurrent, 74% were M3, 63% were W1, while 11% W3. With a mean follow up of 26 months a 14.2% of postoperative adverse events were recorded; no recurrence was observed.
CONCLUSIONS: Ventralight ST Echo PS is a safe and efficacious option to repair ventral and incisional hernia in laparoscopy.
