Sigmoid lipoma presenting with intermittent intussusception

Intussusception is a rare cause of bowel obstructions in adults, representing around 1% of all bowel obstructions and 5% of all bowel intussusceptions. Many pathological conditions, such as malignant or benign neoplasms, may act as leading points by altering bowel peristalsis. Gastrointestinal lipoma arising from the large intestine and causing bowel intussusception is an extremely uncommon clinical entity. The authors present a rare case of a symptomatic lipoma of the sigmoid colon causing intermittent intussusception, diagnosed with Ultrasound (US) and Computed Tomography (CT) and subsequently treated with surgical resection.
