Morbus Schmier and Meyers: a rare case of avascular necrosis in a child’s pisiform

Avascular necrosis of carpal bones is a rare condition most commonly affecting the scaphoid and the lunate. Herein, we present the rare case of a symptomatic avascular necrosis of the pisiform in a healthy 13-year old boy. The treatment regimen is outlined and other cases of avascular necrosis of the pisiform bone are summarized.
